The contractor is progressing ahead of schedule! The colored stamped concrete truck aprons and medians are complete. All of the underground work for the lighting is complete. The hot mix asphalt surface will be completed early this week, followed by pavement striping. Upcoming work will include Concrete Sidewalks, Landscaping, Light Pole installation and removal of the detour.

Lake County Grading has excavated and placed topsoil in basin D and has started to place stone for the sidewalks, medians and bike paths. They will complete topsoil spreading in the upcoming weeks.

Landmark has completed most of the Curb and Gutter at the Dowell Road and Fisher Road Roundabouts and has completed the retaining wall cap. They will be starting the sidewalks and stamped colored concrete for the islands and truck aprons in the upcoming weeks.

Peter Baker will complete the HMA Binder for the roadway today. They will place HMA Surface in the upcoming weeks.

Hometowne Electric has started to excavate for electrical foundations and will start pouring concrete for them on 8/22/2025. They will place conduit and wiring for the lights in the upcoming weeks.

The contractors are progressing ahead of schedule on the contract.

Lake County Grading has installed all of the storm sewers and has excavated retention basin C and most of retention basin B and has placed most of the embankment on the project.  They have also completed the placement of the geotechnical fabric, underdrains, and aggregate subgrade for the roadway.

Natural Creations has completed the precast modular retaining wall. See attached photos.

Landmark has completed pouring concrete for the curb and gutter at the Dowell Road Roundabout and is pouring concrete for the retaining wall cap.

Upcoming work will include concrete curb and gutter at Fisher roundabout, median and truck apron stamped colored concrete, lighting, sidewalk, and hot mix asphalt pavement.

As part of ongoing roadway improvements for the Illinois Department of Transportation, Darrell Road will be closed to through traffic starting Tuesday, May 27. This closure is necessary to safely begin the next phase of construction. A clearly marked detour route will be in place to guide drivers around the work zone. We encourage motorists to plan ahead, follow posted signs, and allow extra time for travel.

Building demolition has been completed. Most of the trees and fence have been removed. Utility relocations should start this month and should be completed by April.

The general contractor, Lake County Grading, is scheduled to close the roads and implement a detour for 140 days starting in June. Depending on the weather, this date may be moved up into May.

The Darrell Road Project website is now being updated for current information on Phase II.

The Darrell Road Roundabout at Case and Neville Roads is open to traffic. The contractor’s work is limited to punch list items and remaining landscaping. Work will continue through November with remaining punch list items.

The contractor completed the Hot Mix Asphalt Surface on 9/18/2023. As work progresses forward, the items to be completed prior to opening the round about include: HMA driveways; shoulder aggregate; landscaping (fertilizer, seed and blanket); fall tree installations; light pole installation; and grooved pavement markings. The lighting service connection from Com Ed will likely be controlling the opening date, as the lighting is required prior to opening the road to traffic. It is anticipated that the Come Ed service connection will be made within 2 weeks.

Work completed by the Contractor in August and early September includes: All Excavation; All Concrete Curb, Sidewalk and Stamped Sidewalk; All Underground Electrical Conduit; All Hot Mix Asphalt Binder. The Lake County DOT Crews have installed the signing for the roundabout.  The Landscaping contractor is continuing to install plants, seed and blanket, trees and mulch.  Upcoming work includes: Hot Mix Asphalt Surface, Driveway Pavement, Light Poles and Luminaires, Pavement Markings and Rumble Strips.  The road is still closed to traffic, please follow the posted detour.

Darrell Road has been closed at Case Road and Neville for close to one month. In that time the contractor has completed the following work in the reconstruction area: pavement removal; earth excavation; installation of new drainage system; installation of geotechnical fabric and aggregate subgrade; installation of concrete curb; installation of asphalt binder.

Work expected in the next month includes but is not limited to: installation of stamped concrete median in the splitter islands and truck apron; concrete sidewalks adjacent to the new roundabout; pavement widening and resurfacing at the north leg of Darrell Road to the project limits; installation of light pole foundations, conduit and wiring; grading for and construction of the bike path.
